What Is Duanwu?
A Festival Older Than History
The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节Duānwǔ Jié) has been observed for over two thousand years — a tribute to Qu Yuan, the poet who chose the river over compromise, and a season of ritual against the damp heat that ancient people believed brought illness and misfortune.
Three customs define the day: dragon boat racing on the river, mugwort hanging on every door, and zongzi shared at every table. Each one carries the same quiet message — courage, protection, togetherness.
